Pious Blossoms

A young child bounces her way to the alter in her baby blue frock leaving a trail of youth behind, only to come back as a an efflorescent damsel.

As the blue buds bloom in the summer heat so does style with shorter hemlines and open shoulders. This ensemble is formally known to me as the “god-mother” outfit simply because this classic look was created for my dear god-child’s baptism. The entire piece reminds me of my youthful days when my mother used to dress me in the most impeccable frocks for church every Sunday. However this particular ensemble is the “big-girl” version of all those poufy dresses with the abridged length, classic pattern, and open shoulders. 

The strapless dress compliments my body perfectly because it embraces my waist, to create an immaculate silhouette. The shorter hemline exposes my most prized possession, my long legs, without being too ostentatious. The simple accessories create the classic aura that is emanated from this ensemble because each piece is undeniably sophisticated. Finally the patterned platforms add a splash of my extravagant personality because the amalgamation of the pattern of the dress and shoes create a subtly opulent look.

My Indian origins have brought me to the place in which I am now, I am inspired by the indulgent colors and patters and I find myself lost in the cultural story of Indian style. It is truly difficult for me to create a unique ensemble with a sari because it has to be worn in a specific way, so I cannot use my usual “avant-garde” ways. However I do adore this piece because the sari itself is exquisite in my eyes, the color combination is simply impeccable. The black foreground with silver accents make this outfit stand out, and the fact that it is very sheer makes it seem like a more youthful sari. Snow flurries freeze over my skin to create a layer of ice forcing me to break through into serendipity.

A new preferred style for modest gatherings:subtly sexy

What does one wear to pick up their rather modest Indian grandmother from the airport in the freezing cold? The simple answer to this is delineated in these retrospective moments of style. Turtlenecks are a simple and cozy classic that display a modest and simple demeanor, a personal favorite of mine. Tight-fitting turtlenecks serve to accentuate your shape by elongating it(check out Striped Amalgam), while loose fitting, chunky ones tend to create a cozy and easy going vibe. However this is not a plain and simple turtleneck that is paired with jeans and a pair of converse. I chose to create an alluring ensemble with the most modest piece in my closet by adding elements of edge. By wearing the animal print jumper underneath the sweater I was able to capture the attention of airport onlookers with my elongated legs, rather than my covered top half. Although the sweater is modest it acts impeccably with the jumper because of the extreme juxtapostion of edgy vs. sweet. 

Details are the key to a show-stopping outfit and this ensemble is no exception to the rule. Without the the belt on my waist this turtleneck would have been rather ill-fitting, but the belt creates an amazing curvy shape for my straight body.One of the most important pieces in this ensemble is the clutch, its crowded pattern serves to clash, but in such a way that it adds o the juxtapositional element o this ensemble. Finally the boots and earrings add to the motif of edginess against the modest.

Refinement on a Ledge

The most classic of basics coalesced with the charm of nature culminates for a genteel product.

The frigid winds brutally blow into my face causing me to retire into a cascade of fur. Winter often calls for the population to retreat into sweatpants and baggy jackets, but I look upon it as an opportunity for layers galore.

“Prep” loosely defines a form of style that includes crisp shirts and bright pops of color. Now I am not exactly one for this rather modest shade of style, but do enjoy experimentation. I opted for a stereotypical blue and white sailor inspired shirt and black jeans to keep things basic. Folding the jeans over, to show just a little bit of leg, added some much needed sexiness. The two pieces that make this ensemble “avant-garde” worthy are the fur vest and the 1970’s inspired clogs. Faux fur was the most impeccable addition to this outfit because it added a dose of varied texture to create a more visually interesting ensemble. Finally the clogs are the most basic yet vogue item that creates that chic look that I desperately crave, because of it’s neutral color but momentous 5 inch heel.

In finality The only form of “prep” my body is willing to embody is an alluring version of the subdued style.

Clearly this ensemble is edgy and sexy because of the skirt’s short length and the intricate top’s cut outs. But it’s deep black color makes this piece elegant and reminds me of the little black dress that every woman needs, with a twist of course. The minimal accessories is what keeps this ensemble from looking trashy, and instead adds the to the elegant vibe. Keep in mind that fashionable sexiness can always be found in a trendy look as long as other pieces in the outfit are kept natural and to the bare minimum.
